RICA Secrets Study Guide RICA Test Review for the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment eBook RICA Exam Secrets Test Prep Team Reviews

In the introduction under the RICA content of this study guide I've noticed that it states the approximate weighting of the multiple choice questions of domain 1 is 20%. The CTC website actually states the approximate weighting is 10%.
domain 2 RS 33% and CTC 33%
domain 3 RS 10% and CTC 13%
domain 4 RS 23% and CTC 20%
domain 5 RS 14% and CTC 23%
I'm not too confident about this study guide if they can't get the percentage correct.
If you truly want to pass the RICA test. Buy this book, it will save you from heartaches and money. You will not have to worry about retaking it. I studied for three weeks and took it the following month. That's all you have to do

Future teachers of America, please save yourselves the 40 dollars and find a different guide. Long story short Don't buy this guide. I'd personally recommend the Cliff Note's Version and other supplemental materials like vocab flashcards and the practice tests found online.

Here's my story
Signed up to take the RICA in the middle of July. Figured I'd spend my summer studying for it. Upon reading reviews, I came across this one. 5 stars all around?! This book helped someone's daughter pass the test?! Sold! First off, this book starts off by giving you test taking tips. For example, don't spend the day of your test studying. Rather relax and eat a good breakfast. Then at another point in the book, it says to have a last minute study session. Which is it? AND… presumably, we've been in education for a while now and have had to jump through numerous hoops. I think that by now, we know how to take a standardized test. K, thanks.

The book itself is REALLY thin. Which at the time, I thought was perfect because I thought it'd be a concise way of getting to the nitty gritty. Nope! THIS ONLY GOES THROUGH THE MULTIPLE CHOICE PORTION!!! NO CASE STUDIES OR CONSTRUCTED RESPONSES!!!! In all, maybe 1/3 of the book is an actual study guide. 1/3 is a WEAK practice test - for example - asking for definition of words when we all know that that's not what you will be tested on. The definition of a term will be asked in an applied context. The last 1/3 of the test is a GENERAL STUDY GUIDE. Oh, you mean the study guide they CLEARLY copy and pasted from a high school AP test study guide?! At one point, I think I laughed out loud. It also says you can access other resources online b/c you bought the book. Tried going there since I was desperate to find more material. The website looked like it was created in 1998 and it pretty much was a GENERAL study guide - that more than likely was the one in the book. Where are these secrets that you speak of??!!!

I gave it a chance and really went through it, took notes and was optimistic about it. I gave up hope when I found about the THIRD SPELLING MISTAKE!! (I can come back and site page numbers if needed). Mometrix does not have a copy editor?!!! Really??!! A book that is supposed to teach future teachers about reading and SPELLING?!! I couldn't believe it. (Pardon if I've spelled any words incorrectly here. But then again I'm not haphazardly putting together a "Study Guide", slapping the name RICA SECRETS on it and selling it for 40 bucks a pop).

I ended up postponing my test by 2 weeks because I did not feel ready and this book was NO HELP! I looked around for different study guides and found MUCH better alternatives. When I finished THAT study guide, I felt prepared. I tried returning THIS book but couldn't bc it was online order, blah, blah, blah. So basically, 40 dollars down the drain.

I found out this week that I passed the RICA on my first try, in no thanks to the RICA SECRETS STUDY GUIDE. Thanks for nothing! Anyone care for some bird cage lining?!
Great book, just what I needed!
Do not buy this. It is a overpriced cheap s***. It is not very informative, no examples. It just look like copy and paste of some word definition. Every good review of books from this company are written by same ID. I doubt ppl from the company wrote their own review to sell their products.
